RFID system is comprised of a number of components including a range of RFID
labels and tags, handheld or stationary readers, data input units, and system
software. It is our business to understand your present operation and to explain
how RFID can be incorporated for…
- Improved process efficiencies
- Cost avoidance
- Increased supply chain accuracy
- Data mining
- Real-time marketing intelligence
- Real-time date stamping
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has existed for a long time.
First used for military equipment tracking in World War II, RFID gained
popularity twenty years ago in retail security with Electronic Article
Surveillance tags and labels. So what's new with RFID technology? The addition
of memory allowing pertinent data to be stored on the RFID label.
RFID technology can provide a reliable system whereby a customer can
effectively track components or products in many types of environments with
minimal or no intervention. A small RFID label affixed to virtually any object
individually identifies the object using a unique, factory-programmed,
unalterable code. The technology has become a primary player in automated data
collection, identification, and analysis systems worldwide. In the past, high
cost of components, immature technology, and inefficient methods of applying the
technology have limited the commercial use of these systems--
Are you asking yourself the following questions regarding your
day-to-day operations…
- How can I keep better track of the products that I am manufacturing
today--from the receiving line to the assembly line to the warehouse to the
customer?
- How much time do I lose each week/month/year tracking down lost items,
fixing mistakes, correcting missed shipments and dealing with the possible
penalties that can be incurred?
- Am I limited in the real-time management or production decisions I make
because I do not have the right information?
- Your product can be tracked as it moves through machining operations,
assuring that all operations have been completed, thereby alleviating the need
for visual inspections.
How Can You Use RF/ID?
- Manufacturing
- Flexible manufacturing
- Raw materials and component parts can be easily identified with supplier
information, lot number, date produced and expiration date readily available
on the RFID chip through Work in Process (WIP). Valuable product history can
be obtained and archived.
- Your product can be tracked as it moves through machining operations,
assuring that all operations have been completed, thereby alleviating the
need for visual inspections.
- RFID has the ability to withstand processes where traditional bar codes
fail such as paint, harsh chemical baths and high heat; enabling data
collection in processes where data was previously collected manually or not
at all
- Inventory Tracking
- Real-time inventory re-supply
- Containers, from large mobile containers to small totes, can be
accurately tracked in inventory and WIP by providing accurate and fast
identification of the container and its contents.
- With RFID, re-usable containers can easily be tracked from manufacturer
to supplier and back, eliminating lost containers. Previous contents of the
container can be stored on the RFID label, eliminating the risk of mixing
hazardous materials.
- Shipping Operations
- Time sensitive shipments can easily be located eliminating late charges.
- Decrease labor time associated with locating pallets for shipping
- Assurance that products with invalid expiration dates are not shipped is
easily accommodated since the RFID label on each container stores this data.
- A truck's manifest can be generated from information gleaned from
automatically reading RFID labels as containers are packed onto the truck.
Customized RFID System Instead of Bar Coding
RFID adds a whole new level of control that bar codes by themselves cannot
achieve.
A total RFID Solution can…
- Read Multiple Labels at Once - One of the most outstanding benefits
of RFID is its ability to read multiple labels at remarkable speeds --
responding in less than 100 milliseconds in most cases. Multiple products or
cartons stacked on a pallet or packed inside a large container can be
identified as they pass by a RFID reader. This eliminates the process of
unloading a container or pallet just to find the correct bar code.
- Provide non-line of sight transmission - RFID is completely
automatic and transparent, eliminating the need to position the bar code in
line with the scanner. Cartons on a conveyor can be identified without the
manual process of verifying that the cartons are in the correct position.
- Reusability and Read/Write Capability - RFID provides the option of
writing as well as reading information to and from the labels. When a pallet
of cartons is received or moved to a new location, each carton's RFID label
can automatically be updated with its new location providing accurate
information without any manual effort.
- More durable label/tag - RFID systems also work effectively in
hostile environments where excessive dirt, dust, moisture and/or poor
visibility would normally hamper the ability to read a bar code label.
